do a bit of a search, this topic has been covered a few times now.

the biggest hurdle is the electronics. the ZF has really complex electricals and are contained within the standard ecu, not in a separate controller. so this is the biggest hurdle to overcome.

there is talk of the box not fitting under the trans tunnel, but FTG Auto Salvage put a 6 speed box into a BA shell which had a 4 speed originally and it fit.

I'm unsure of bellhousings and so on though.

all in all, big project

let me put it this way:

Anything is possible if you have James Packer's wallet.

Jimmy Packers wallet eh ! Not bad S-tranzor !
Fitment isn't really an issue as I've got the space I reckon, I am more concerned about electronic issues. The physical job of making the 2 fit would be less of an issue to me than getting the thing to perform like it should. I'm not real bright when it comes to bits & bytes stuff

thanks nikko thats the sort of stuff/info that I'm after. 8-)
It begs the question then, that If I run a winsdor efi with a 5.4 ecu how do you reckon it'd go ? :!:

i doubt the 5.4 ecu would run on the windsor

what you could do

is drop the 5.4 AND 6spd into the car :)

The ZF actually has its own computer located in the box as well, this talks to the PCM (powertrain control module) and the BEM/BCM (Body electornics module).
The electronics will be the hardest bit as you are running a windsor it sounds like you may have to go for a seperate aftermarket trans controller or aftermarket ecu with controller inbuilt.

Best person to speak to would be Mal Wood up in Queensland - He does all gearboxes etc and may have some knowledge on how to get it working and he may be able to supply and adaptor bell housing/plate
