now my 6 bangger has died and being manual just wondering will the gearbox fit in my ef xr8. i read something about the length of the box on the 6 is shorter but if i use the 6 cyl tail shaft it should work, shouldnt it?

no the input shaft on a v8 box is longer than a 6 cyl box
correct me if im wrong!!

i knew something was shorter! well the input shaft is a downer il just have to go mal wood t56 conversion when i get back from overseas

hey..
its not the box length thats different its the input shaft length thats different, so a 6 cyl box cant be used with the factory v8 bellhousing..

but you can use a 6 cyl box if you use an aftermarket dellow bellhousing and a custom length tailshaft..

pm taxi 5l he has a 6 cyl t5 in his 5.0l ea.. he may know the part number for the bellhousing

seen another post bout crs bell housings to make the 6 cyl t5 work whats the dealy with them and then using the 6cyl tail shaft. surely thats a winner winner chicken dinner

i just didnt have the time to busy organising going overseas.
so if i get the dellow or crs bell housing the 6cyl will work on the v8 with the 6cyl tail shaft rather than extending the v8 one, like in another post

the v8 and 6 cyl tailshafts are the same..

you may need to lengthen the tailshaft by about 30-40mm because the 6 cyl input shaft is shorter than the v8, meaning the dellow/crs bellhousing will bring the 6 cyl box closer to the engine to make up for the difference in input shaft length, so that will mean that the tail shaft may have to be lengthened to make up the difference...

ah yes i did not forsee that, to many bundys. i think my xr8 will soon become manual
