It is much easier to fit the seal kit if you have the front pulley off because to get to the front seal, the front pulley needs to be off...or else you have to play with a cir-clip on the shaft (internal) to remove the shaft from the housing so you can replace the seal.

It is pretty straight forward, you just have to be careful with the vanes and make sure when you remove the cover that the vanes of the pump doesn't just fall out and remember which way they go (pretty sure they are directional).

If you buy the kit, it actually has instructions.

just realised my mates trade is hydraulics so even though hes in qld hes going to help if i need some advice, aparently brake cleaner is the way to go with cleaning it up and a clean work area already goes without saying with this kinda thing, jeez it smells like a transmission that hasent been serviced when the fluid got tipped out

These are the tools I use for power steering pumps.
1st one is the pulley removal and installation tool.
2nd one is the tool for clamping in the end plate so you can get the big circlip out, it has a big spring under it.
3rd one is the tool for installing the front oil seal.
It is possible to put the plate & shaft assembly in the wrong way as is it's mating opposite face ( where the vanes seal against at their ends ).
Where the 2 little rods go through the plates, 1 of the holes has little flats ( very hard to see ), they must be lined up where they came from.
Use ATF or R1-424 when assembling the pump.
Make sure you put the 'O'ring in the right groove on the pressure relief valve, or it will not work.
That seal kit won't last either, it doesn't have Viton seals & 'O'rings, and doesn't have a replacement magnet either, like the genuine Ford kits have........you get what you pay for.

im sitting around all day bored as f**k so i might aswell pull it apart and $17 later i have one that will hopefully not leak and ive learnt something, if it still leaks ill just throw it and buy a new one but at least it will keep me busy for a few hours, if it works ill look into buying a proper ford seal kit and do my other one and flog it off on ebay

Yes, because you only need a decent G clamp to do the spring loaded plate, and you don't necessarily need the front pulley off - remove the rear circlip instead. Improvise where you need to.

Borrow a ford shop manual - it covers this really well. As for the kits - my local steering specialist sells the same brand kits for nearly double $$$. Magnet: If you have to prise the existing one off, you don't really need a new one. Cleanliness and use 424 or compatible ATF as mentioned.

I have done 2 pumps and 2 steering racks using these guys kits - 18 mths on they're fine.
If you go there in person - speak to Uri - he knows his sh*t and is happy to pass on his knowledge.

this spring loaded plate thats held on by the big circlip came straight off and wasnt really very spring loaded, how do i access the rest of the pump through there? nothing else seems to wanna remove from the rest of the pump housing unless im not trying hard enough.
i can get pictures if you like
also the magnet was just sitting in there and came straight out, i already cleaned it up and its all good
there seems to be play in the pulley so does that mean i need to chase up a bearing or is a little bit of play ok?
thanks for the help mate
