I have a spare ABS hydraulic pump laying around, I was wondering how I go about swapping one over? Will I have issues with the brakes not working at all if I stuff up?

You'll need to undo the pipes to replace it, so that will mean fluid loss and bleeding the system.
I'm assuming your car is an EA-ED as the item pictured is a bendix unit, EF/EL's run Bosch units.

Yes I have an ED futura with the bendix stuff
I understand that I will get fluid loss, because it was pissing out when I was pulling it off another car. What do you mean by bleeding the system? I would like to swap everything over myself, but I want to have working brakes after I finish!

This is bleeding your brakes yes?
BLEEDING YOUR BRAKES When bleeding your brakes, make sure the bleed screws are pointing up. Always start with the caliper f@rt from the master cylinder. Have one person open the bleed screw while another person slowly depresses on the brake pedal. Close the bleed screw before brake pedal is released. Have someone keep checking the fluid in the master cylinder. Never let the level get low. Never put fluid drained out of the system back into the master cylinder.

yeah thats the general gist of things...
As long as you bleed it correctly, you should be pretty sweet. Just make sure you test the brakes in the driveway before you go anywhere. A good way to check your pedal, is have the engine running and press down all the way - then pump a few more times. If it gets harder after a couple of pumps, then you still have air in the system and will require more bleeding. If the pedal stays the same from the very first pump, then chances are you have most/all of the air out. Cheers |

Clean with metho the area where the pipes join the unit after they've been fitted. After a few days use, check for leaks.
