would it be possible to build something that stops the kickdown function? i mean completely? so that if you want a lower gear you must select it? be interesting to be actually able to use anything close to WoT without it kicking down and screaming its tits off. with a 3.89 rear end it would be nice to feel what it could pull like in the right gear rather than revving heaps.

For people considering doing this - the thing to keep in mind in the wet is that problems arise when the transmission shifts while there's a fair bit of torque being put down - ie. 2-3 upshift can be particularly nasty. The solution is to drive the car somewhat differently to what you're used to with an auto - ie. I found that from experience I could pretty much predict when the trans was going to shift so made sure I backed off a tad at the right time - ie. use the accelerator in same way as for a manual change - the trans would shift immediately but I'd reduced torque so no nastiness - then I could feed power back in - but again being careful not to provoke a kickdown at the wrong time. The result is sort of like one of those automatic manual transmissions. Hope that makes sense?

i know this topic is old but...is the resistor just spliced in to the pin wire? and is the pot upside down in the diagram? (so i know what prongs to wire up to)

Yes spliced in on the red wire doesnt matter which 2 pins you use on the pot, as long as you get a centre and an outside one.
