Has anybody fitted the repco after market trail arms for EB-EL, there the tubular ones with red bushes. They look a lot better then the factory lower trail arms, just wont to know if they stiffen rear like help with the side to side movement. Are they worth the money or am i better off re bushing the factory trailing arms with decent bushes.

not sure about the repco ones, but i have just replaced mine with the change over nolathane ones and it was so much easier than pressing out bushes and pressing in new ones, just remove the old arms and bolt in the new ones, so easy and quick.
i tried pressing out the old bushes from the trailing arms to put some new ones in to keep as a spare pair, the bushes are completely stuffed, there is alot of the bush remaining in the trailing arm and is going to take alot of effort to get it all out. |

Did you use a proper press to remove old bushes
Where did you get the change over trail arms? Was it pedders? they quoted me over $1000 for all 4 trail arms that was change over re bushed factory trail arms Iv priced after market bushes at $40 a pop so $80 per trail arm, have replace a fair few mostly older EA type not a hard job What i really want to know is if the solid after market trail arms are an improvement, my trail arms are still ok just wont less side movement when driving hard. I'm after a more solid rear end. Will try the nolathane sway bar link bushes see if they help |

they aren't solid, and over $1000 for the arms is ridiculous, someone is ripping you off.
trailing arms do f**k for lateral location as well. swaybar links do even less you should be looking at the watts link.

i got the nolathane lower trailing arms for a shop like repco or auto pro or something like that, cant remember which. they had to order them in but there wasnt any problem 2 days later i picked them up.
if you want to tighten up the back end, i would suggest a bigger sway bar. i put a whiteline adjustable one in my ef fairmont and it made the back do much more level. the cheapest, but most noticeable improvement i have done to the suspension. doesnt roll around like it use to. it wouldnt have to be an adjustable one either, just something better than the factory sway bar. |

I have already re bushed wats link all 3 bushes not a scrap of difference And regarding trailing arms playing no part in lateral movement, your wrong there mate, haven't you ever driven a car with worn out trail arm bushes the rear end is all over the place. Jack the rear of a car with solid axle and push diff side to side while watching trail arms. And your telling me replacing 12yo sway bar link bushes wont do anything. Do you work in a suspension shop? |

Hey fairmont V8 ghia, sounds like what im after i have whiteline front 30mm sway bar couldn't feel much difference after fitting but cornering was improved and with my koni's front was stiff anyway, but the back doesn't match the front i will try rear sway bar what size did you go, 24mm?

jack the rear of a solid axle coil spring car, remove the watts link and/or panhard rod then push it side to side.
you could have rose jointed trailing arms, but it's still going to move a f**k. also theres 5 bushes in the watts link, not 3. just trying to help, if you think your diff is moving side-to-side too much, it's the watts link you should be looking at. and no i don't work in a suspension store, just played with e-series suspension a little bit.

Yeah i know there is 5 bushes in wats link, the 2 bushes that join to mounting pionts of chassis where fine no piont replacing, was only the 3 center bushes that where gone, there is nothing wrong with wats link
I guess im just fussy, i don't like how stock rear end set up is so loose. I have lovel superlow all round koni adjustable front struts, 30mm whiteline front sway bar nolathane sway bar link and D bushes and superpro camber kits front is nice and firm with very little body roll. But the rear does not match its to soft and loose, im using monrooe GT sport short body shocks in rear they are quite firm. From what fairmont v8 ghia said sounds like a fatter sway bar should fix my problem |

For someone so knowledgeable in suspension setup, it surprising you are asking so many questions, with most of them being pretty silly.
You want to stiffen up the rear end, replace all the bushes. Pretty simple. 12 or 13yo rubber bushes are going to be pretty f**k by now. A bigger sway bar is not going to tighen up the rear end. It will aid in handling and grip, but if your bushes are shot, the whole suspension is going to wiggle around regardless. Same with springs and shocks. You want it tight, replace all the bushes... Everything.. Including the 2 watts link you think looked OK. |

Hmm. I've replaced my whole rear end (with changeover arms and new sway bars & bits) except for the watts link, as I thought it wasn't critical. May have to look into it at some point.

yeah like arm said, can do them without a press.
i just fitted superpro bushes to my thing, i did the watts link bushes in a press just because it was easier to keep them straight while they popped in, could easily be done with hammer/vice, just a bit more fiddly.
