Have their been any people willing to spend the effort and time required to get a four wheel drive drivetrain engineered to a falcon?? I reckon someone should do it just to show Ford that if they got off their big blue a** and manufactured one, then tickford or DJR or whoever could come and hot it up and we'd have Aussie built cars that would crap on the Skyline GTR. I mean, look at the capacity...
2.6L turbo inline six v 4L turbo inline six. Throw in a few years of aftermarket development and we'd be laughing.

Buy a BA and an AWD Territory - unbolt territory body and falcon body, swap. AWD falcon, RWD territory.

If it was THAT simple, it would have happened by now.....

im sure it will happen in the future but for once ford has taken time making a car that not only looks good but is winning awards!!! basically quality and not quantity....

I for one am glad that Ford is spending money on strengthening the body and really getting into tuning the suspension instead of dumping all that R&D into a AWD/4WD system.
I'd far rather a RWD Ford with good suspension that a POS lowered Skyline (which about 130% of them are) and that handles like a wheelbarrow cause the springs have been chopped with an oxy-torch. AWD is good, but it's more weight, it takes the pressure off the engineering team to design good suspension, it increases drive train lossses, it sucks up a whole heap of room under the engine which means no more V8s, and they're not as fun. There's not many things more fun than sliding 1700Kg for aussie built RWD Ford through a corner @ 100km/h and taking up 5 lanes as you get the b**ch 45 degrees in the wet. |

if only they continued the development of the AWD XF's, an AWD falcon would be reality instead of just a dream

They are lighter, they've got years of experience making and tuning the awd and the suspension on the skyline, their engines are light years beyond the fords i6. I mean when a boosted ba cracked the 1000hp it was pretty big news, but if you look at the rb26dett, they've been cracking the 1000hp + for years with relative ease. And you can't get over the fact that the falcon, even in a "sports" trim is still a glorified familly sedan, wheras the skyline is a true sprts car. It will take alot more than just an awd system on a falcon to make it even come close to a skyline.
Exactly right. Have you any idea how bloody sophisticated the GT-R's AWD system (ATTESA-ETS /Pro) is? Or Subarus? It's a decent decade of engineering, and then tweaking it for another decade. Don't get me wrong though, it'd be nice to have an Aussie built Ford sedan with AWD and a big blower on top of the 5.4L! |

A fine example being holden's AWD station wagon (adventra?).... read any review of this car and you'll see how when challenged for traction, the system still ends up sending all the power to one wheel.... However, we should be careful about blowing too much sunshine up the skyline's a**... there's been plenty of woeful models (4 door with CA18 anyone?)... R32 GTR weighed in at 1480kg... R33 GTR @ 1530kg... not exactly lightweight sports cars... i.e. 1995 RX-7 with 1300kg @ 50/50 weight distribution... now THAT is a sports car. And getting 1000hp from ANY engine is not going to be "easy" - rb26dett or otherwise.... it's not like turismo...
