As you can see in my 3 crappy pics; my lane is riding way to high.
I know it is not recommended, but what are your thoughts out there. I've had mates just chop a couple coils out of their springs and they seem to be fine. She's not worth a heap and I've already spent more than market value on her. But god-damn......... I'd love her to look fatter. plain an simple before you get abused for the question..
i recomend an so will a lot of others on here cutting springs = noooo gooo!! they are unsafe as they can "pop" out of place because the shock isn't to the right length for the spring which can equal very sloppy ness an can lead to unsafe driving conditions... even though the car might not be worth lots the person or persons that arte in it are worth more then money can buy... cheers Dan

Yep very dangerous, my mate chopped his vr rears and I told him wat the outcome would be, he didnt listen and 1 week later he called me to come help him pull his car off a tree as a spring fell out and he spun out, wasnt going fast either

all good if you want lowee looking ford just find some ones second hand lowed or supers with shocks to match they are often up for sale somewhere just gotta find them an seeing as they second hand they'll be cheap as chips an will do the job they ment to do just won't be as tight as a set of new ones

Disagree. Ive done it plenty of times and never had a problem.
Its free, just try it. Dont go overboard you wont have an issue.

i wouldn't do it myself, but everyone did it in the old days. they say 1.5 coils.
it's not unsafe if done right. but you can buy proper ones on ebay pretty cheap anyway |

Swine flu has killed a couple of hundreds of people...at that state they would have been zombified. So from your statement, cutting springs may kill a couple of hundreds of people. In saying that, 1 coil may be good...as long as the springs sit well in the shocks. If it doesn't sit right, and you travel along a road with a dip, the spring may just pop out as the shock is at full extension. However it is illegal and if caught you, will get a fine bigger than the amount it would have cost you to buy the proper springs and got them installed by a pro...and then have to get it fixed properly...so double the cost. Your life your choice.

ONLY reason I would & have cut coils in the past is to sort out a ride height, nothing more. When you cut up a coil spring you alter the way it will compress, and this can have very serious effects on the handling of the car, ie bouncing more over bumps in the road....
Not to mention they might actually fall out of the car when the shock fully extends, unless your running shorter stroke shocks. Which I doubt would be run if we are talking about cutting springs...... It's bodgey and shouldn't be allowed near public roads......... Cheers ToranaGuy

As long as they seat ok and are held captive, they should be ok.
Some SLs and SSLs in E-Series don't stay put when the suspension is at full droop anyway. I guess I'm saying as long as they don't come out you will be ok! |
