Hey guys,
As some of you know, I'm the new WA-based owner of PYROAY. The car is great ...apart from an annoying phenomenon I'm experiencing with the T56 6-spd / Mal Wood 11" Clutch combo... Basically ...at speeds of 90km/hr plus (particularly 100 km/hr +) I'm getting a really annoying vibration when changing up or down between 4th, 5th and 6th ...it really shakes the whole car, and I can really feel it as soon as I step on the clutch pedal When she slows down to below 90-100 km/hr ...the vibration disappears. I'm also finding that I get a non-positive 'bouncing' sort of feel from the clutch pedal (like the clutch itself is bouncing) when changing up or down at slower speeds ...along with some annoying 'ticks' and rattles from the shifter area. To me ...this just doesn't seem normal ...any ideas as to what could be causing this? Any help would be MUCH appreciated guys ...'cos this is REALLY pissing me off! Cheers

Yeah ...I'll be calling them (and Aaron) tomorrow ...not the sort of thing that should be happening with a $13,500 set-up

mark, when the F6 had no more than 2000km on it, it developed harmonics (vibration) in 5th gear at 110kmh... ford decided it would be easier to ship in a new box and fit that rather than try to fix it... that doesnt sound good for you :S

Unfortunately i'm not much of a guru on clutches Mal/Ben would definatle be the men to help you, they were helpful when we initially installed the clutch and box.
Perhaps the clutch itself has worn unevenly? Causing both the vibration & bouncing problem you've indicated? The clutch has been inth e car for a couple of yrs now (30,000+km) so it may have worn a little. BPT motorsport are a Mal wood dealer so I would be speaking to Terry there and get him to check over it for you. He has a fair bit of experience with Mal/Ben's products.

She's got a one-piece Mal Wood Tailshaft ...all pointing to a uni joint at the moment.
She's booked in on WED ...so we'll see how we go

Thanks Aaron!
Is it just me ...or should that tailshaft be sitting more horizontal?

It does when the car is on the ground (photo is taken with the car at about head height)
The whole back end drops down when there is nothing to support it.

Considering the rear suspension is at full drop, I would say not.

Been talking to Ben at Mal Wood, and he's been EXTREMELY helpful ...those guys really know their stuff.
It all seems to be Road-speed related ...so it really could be anything, but Ben is trying to get a WA Mal Wood dealer to have a squizz for me

hey matey this might not be the problem but i had a race car once and everytime i went down the quarter the whole car would vibrate violently from mid to top end.
found out the tail shaft was not balanced right, got it re-balanced and it was smoth as after that.. have the weights re checked on it.

I had the same thing with my XE, tail shaft was out of balance and mine also came in at around 90k, but I think hes saying that it only happens when the clutch goes in? if so then I wouldn't guess tail shaft

Got Tim Slako at West Racing (WA Mal Wood dealer) to take her for a spin ...and he quickly confirmed that it's NOT the Gearbox / Clutch.
When we finally got to hit 100km/hr (bit difficult to do at peak-hour in Ossie Park ) he felt the vibration for himself ...he took her out of gear and it was worse ...he basically said it's definitely a tailshaft / diff problem ...but would lay 99% of his bets on the tailshaft ...possibly a 'brinelled' uni joint. He can't do anything about it this week ...but suggested I keep my booking with ABS Kewdale on WED, and see what they discover. Tim's a VERY knowledgeable guy too ...11-time competitor at Bathurst, and the only West Aussie to win a race there He also swears by Mal Wood's gear ...saying they are the best in the biz ...and I was certainly impressed with how Ben helped me today Tim also confirmed that my accelerator cable set-up is a bit less than perfect (the cable is not pulling through the entire arc of the TB guide) ...and that she needed a better tune down low (flicked the pedal with his foot and she was stalling) All in all ...very positive ...at least I'm not up for any huge expense ...and I found myself a good performance dude for future work
