Just wondering.. I've found a mob that strip heaps of EL's, so they always have the good stuff around and don't want much for it..
Is there any benefit in putting the entire undercarriage of an EL under my EA? I'll have a EL motor and BBM in it soon.. and an EL XR6 front end if I can manage it.. just wondering if there is anything much to gain in the handling stakes in making all the under bits from an EL fit the EA... (as I understand it, most of it should bolt right up with the exception of the Diff..) what do you guys think? rgds Frank |

dude thats alot of work to change the whole under carrage..
and ef/el front suspension will fit as the suspension is the same. and the ef/el diffs can fit into ea aswell.. |

Hi Troyman...
I think the diff is now gonna be an ED XR6 LSD.. so that saves me messing around in the Diff.. I would rather my diff interaction be restricted to connecting the drive shaft and hooking up the calipers... |

I guess my question is.. were there any improvements to the front end design between EA and EL that would make this a worthwile swap?
I'm going to be pulling the engine out again anyway, it would be relatively easy to swap the entire undercariage as one piece onto the EA... |

std i dont know if there is any difference..
in my case my koni shocks and controle arms are all from a ef xr8 and ive transfered them from the ef to a ed 6 then to a ebxr8 and they are now in my ea.. if you can get v8 or tickford suspension it might be a bit stiffer.. as for the suspension geometry ive been told that there are some differences but none that i can phisically see.. |

think if it fits easily, I might change it over anyway..
I'm planning on doing the whole front end in EL.. if the engine is EL, and the guards etc is EL,, and the undercarriage is EL as well.. I can basically say the car is half EL.. guess that makes it an EAL Falcon.. that sounds sorta unique.. |

yea its a bitsa
its a ea with ef suspension,ed diff,au engine,ef radiator and fans,ed ghia seats,ed xr front,el outer door handles,nl fairlane door trims, and eb tail lights.. so its got a piece from every model except ba.. |

there you go... people can't just go out and buy a car like yours.. they either have to pay someone to do it for them, or they have to build it like you have..
what is the benefit of the AU engine over the EL? I was under the impression that the valves were smaller on the AU and late EL heads... (thats why I specifically went looking for an earlyish EL.) |

the au engine is much smoother than the e series.
the bottom end (crank/rods/pistons) are completely different. and the au is better balanced and it has a stronger bottom end. it also uses the steel type head gasket to help with the blow head gasket problems in early engines.. the valves are actually larger in au with conical valve springs which aparently alowes more rpm as the shape of the springs helps reduce valve bind in the au head compared to std e series.. but on the down side the au head has slightly smaller ports.. for some reason ford went from smaller valves with larger ports in std e series.. to larger valves with smaller ports in the au.. actually the au valve size is the same as the e series tickford heads.. |

to get the ef/el suspension in your ea then you will have to get an ef/el k-frame too...
Not worth it in my opinion - just get a camber caster kit(if not already) and increase your caster. Thats the only real difference |

Only difference here is the location the upper balljoint mounts to, thus increasing your caster The ef/el lower arm is completely different to the earlier arms.... and are not interchangeable. |

the K-frame is easily swapped I expect as I replaced a damaged one in my ef in a couple of hours. What you are proposing sounds like a simple days work. you will of course require a full 4-wheel alignment afterwards.
