Hey this is my first post so go easy on me if its a little jumbled :) I am currently restoring a 64 falcon and i'd like to know a few things if anyone can help me? I would like to replace the asthmatic 170 with a 250 2V however i still want to keep the 3 on the tree and the rest of the running gear, is this possible or will i need to change things to handle the added horsepower?? Also how do i go about changing the stud pattern from the original 4 stud to the more conventional 5 stud?? What are the considerations for the new motor, i.e the brakes and suspension?? obviously the will need to be upgraded to become legal. Any help would be appriciated

Firstly welcome to the site.
As far as the three on the tree goes, yes you can keep this box but I do have to ask why? It will bolt straight up and it will handle the power. To change the stud pattern: the best way is to contact Castlemaine Rod shop. They do kits for this purpose. We used one on a cortina. Pretty easy to fit with satisfactory results. Have still got some offset issues tho. Brakes etc I am not sure of but I think if you do the stud conversion that has to be done with a disc front end anyway. Hope this helps

The XP utes had 5 stud wheel pattern. The XR was the first all model 5 stud pattern. The XP was the first to have disc brakes, special order, and had a remote booster. Not too sure which model, either PBR VH24 or VH44. I can't remember. I'm not too sure whether later falcon stub axles will fit the front, because of balljoint stud size, and bolt pattern for the upper control arms.
