Had a very bad noise coming from the rear of the car...
Jacked it up tonight and found this... (refer to attached photo) Three of the bushes were like this... I assume this was the cause of the noise... They were reconditioned EL upper trailing arms with Noltec bushes. I put them in just over a year ago... they should last longer than that! Any suggestions on why this has happened so quickly? I'm going to replace them with Pedders rubber bushes.

But nothing compared to a full LPG tank...

no trailers or nothing?
I'd be getting onto the manufacturer maybe there is recall on them or a fault in materials or maybe something risking lots of lives they are not aware of yet???

No trailers... I took the tongue off.
I bought the arms as NOS so trying to get onto Noltec about them is probably a waste of time but I'll send them an email anyway...

Thats prolly why... Did you use the lubricant that comes with neoprene bushes when you installed them? Id stick with rubber bushes all the way through the car. Neoprene makes such f**k all difference to the handling and ride its barely worth the expense in getting it. Bout the only thing Id consider is the D bushes on the sway bars. Neoprene = poor mans substitution for rose joints.

well maybe thats why... your other option is nolathane bushes... Hard as s**t and will last probably longer than the car I'd reckon... Hopefully these bushes don't kill anybody...

Nolathane is a brand the same as Noltec is, they all make polyurethane bushes. Same dog different ute.

Right you are Dazz... Only reason I used polyurethane on the trailing arms is because the arms were NOS so they ended up being a quarter of the cost of new rubber bushes.
I've got a mix of polyurethane and rubber throughout the car.

So did you lube the bush before installation, like you were supposed to.
Cant see any marks from the grease there. With no/inadequate grease, the pivoting of the arm will heat the inner crush tube and cause the urethane to melt and fail. Just like you have. Unless your getting the Pedders stuff stupidly cheap, just go get Nolethane stuff from an auto store. Pedders is repackaged Nolethane bushes. And they come in 2 halves. So you just need to cut the old bush out and slide the new ones in either side and fit the crush tube through the centre. And yes, Noltec haven't existed for a while now. Someone bought Whiteline, Noltec and Red Ranger as a group a few years back. p****d off Noltec as a company and kinda merged the product ranges of the other 2. |

I am getting the Pedders stuff cheap. They've always worked out the cheapest for me and I don't have to wait a week for some auto store to order it in. Besides... I want rubber this time, so Pedders rubber works out the cheapest anyway. PU makes fk all difference on something like a trailing arm.
And yes I lubed it... But more than likely not enough... Will go to town with the stuff this time around.

Ive now stayed clear of noltec/pedders for about 10 years. Superpro bushes hold together much better. There are many many examples of noltec/nolothane bushes falling apart.
That said - I do like the arms you have - nicer than the boxed ones that are factory. Id re-bush them with superpro Nigel |

by looking at the photo i would guess that the trailing arm was tightened up whilst still on stands this puts excess straign on the bush and they rip, next time lower( on to some bricks if car is lowered ) if not lowered you may be able to get under backend enough to tighten up control arm bolts, control arms must be in the operating position eg: on ground before tighting hope this helps

Who stocks Superpro bushes?
I had noltec a long time ago in my XF and the rear arms did very similar in a very short period. I never had a problem with the Nolathane brand. |
