I have some play in what seems to be my steering rack, when driving I can let go of the wheel & she goes straight, BUT the steering wheel moves from L to R like someone is driving 4 me, as soon as I hold it straight the car wanders all over the show?
I had a second person wiggle the wheel while I was under it, & there was quite a bit of clunk clunk inside the rack when play was taken up. the book I have only tels me how to check if theres play, not how to adjust it out (waste of paper) so how do I do it??

There is a big allen key thingy near the shaft that goes into rack, find something to fit in there, with no weight on wheels, tighten it up, till no play is evident, dont iover tighten, as this will bind.

Yeah I found that out the hard way! (I took the plunge in the dark )
but still the ol' girl wanders all over the road. I don't know if it means anything, but the wandering has only come back since I put my 17x8.5'' wheels back on , I was running 15x7''s till I could afford more rubber to leave on the highway. I have a feeling that being a V/low profile tyre exagerates the problem By the way the tyres are Eagle F1's by goodyear and are only 225/40/17 on 8.5'' rims ,does this mean anything to anyone? so far I don't think a great deal of these tyres.

I have heard that the larger your rims the more they will track; i have definetly found this evident, having often driving 3 cars all with sifferent sized rims and think the largest certainly do have minds of their own at times..
To me seems normal, but obviously if its really bad or hard to keep straight there is obviously something ill.

I know big wheels have more tracking probs, but these are at the point of oversteer, I mean I can't even drive with one hand anymore.
on my XB GT I ran 15x12 and 15x9 on the front with 265's and 305's that was a walk in the park to drive compared to the EL XR8 with 225's & 245's has anyone experienced this type of problem?

I have had no probs with 235/45/17. nor with the 245/40/17s rear was 255/40/17that were on it when i bought it.

I havnt seen it that bad to be honest and if you cant drive it one hand anymore, or even cumfortably with one hand id say something is a bit suss.

I think I got problems!
so when the sun comes up and I am less intoxicated I may just have another squiz. surely it cant be hard to find, its too extreme to miss, I hope!
