Hi guys anyone got any ideas on removing the filler plug on an el. Ive tried and cannot budge it and have started to round it off a little. I need to add oil and this is the only way and ive rang up a dealer and they want up to $100 to get it off which sounds rediculous. Any ideas would be appreciated is there a special tool? I dont think its ever been off so could it be rusted shut? Anyone know where to get a replacemet bolt. Im not gonna call ford they prob want $50 or more for a $5 bolt. Cheers

good chances are you used the wrong sized socket/spanner
falcons have got imperial and metric bolts... great hey. try giving the bolt a direct (but not too hard) hit, to loosen up any rust in the thread... also use some wd40/crc to loosen the surface rust etc |

what are you using to loosen it? Not just an allen key? try extending it with a socket extension or spanner and use a hammer to tap it round.

I stuffed mine a fair while ago - my solution was to never service it again myself!
$100 is ridiculous to remove though, my mechanic had mine out in a few minutes and replaced it with another one - din't charge me any extra either. |

Thanks for all the tips guys will try to get a six sided ring spanner and crc on it. Does anyone know what exact size i should get? Glad that im not he only one that has had this problem. Pity the plug isnt more accessable otherwise i would smash the hell out of it until it came off. Any ideas on which way it is to loosen. Thanks for all your help guys. Cheers

i did mine in my conversion used a allen key with ajack handle on the end.... dad changed his oil months ago and snapped the key in the plug lol it is still in there

Auto Transmission filler plug is 16mm if that's what you're talking about

i tried a 16mm and ive stripped it. Its like rusted shut or something.And i cant think of any other way to get the thing off. I cant seem to find a six sided ring spanner anywhere. Anyone know of a place to get it done that wont charge me much in melb se suburbs. Cheers

Mine has done the same, and I did use a six sided socket. I also tried vice grips and they just rounded it off more.
I'm gonna have to take it to a mechanic. who will hopefully be able to file it down and get something onto it. |

Footprint wrench would be handy.......dont worry too much if you totally destroy the bolt, i'll keep it short, but after machining my flywheel, picking up my new bolts.....one snapped off clean and flush with the crank, it was removed by a bolt removal specialist.
Plumbing suppliers/hardware shops should have some footprints, worst case scenario, it gets removed with an ezy-out, and you buy a new bolt

I f@#ked mine as well all i did was take the cooler lines off the transmission cooler and using a drum pump... pumped the atf through there...

Hammer and chisel is your last and best option
 You will have to get the plug out some way as even if you put the oil in through some other way the plug is the level that the oil has to come up to.

Hahaha, bolt removal will work! If they can reef out a bolt, snapped flush with my crank........side of a gearbox should be a walk in the park
Try all the other methods first.......they are all free, worst case scenario, a dude drills the centre, sticks the tool in, pulls it out, you buy a new bolt

Bought another bolt for when i get it off. What is a footprint exactly?

bolt head is 5/8". 16mm is a bees d**k too big and thats why your rounding the bolt head. try tapping a 15mm single hex socket onto the bolt with a hammer and remove with a breaker bar
