Was the EL GT steering an different to the standard EL's?
I am planning on putting on some genuine EL GT's on my Fairmont Ghia with the correct size rubber 245/40/17 but probably onlyt lowering it with Low springs to bring it down to around the Tickford height. I wouldn't need to roll the guards then would I? Cheers |

You wont need to roll the guards, it should be safe.
However, with rubber that wide, the tyres will hit the plastic covers in the wheel arch at full lock - and maybe the sway bar. Otherwise it should be fine. |

So does that mean the EL GT must have a slightly different steering rack to accomodate the wide rubber so at full lock it will not hit the inner plastics?
This thread has made me a bit worried about fitting the EL GT's to my Ghia |

It does. I believe it has some sort of stopper on the rack to prevent the wheels from turning so far.
Oh, and please dont be a sissy... I've had genuine GT's on my car for 2 years now - and know others that have had them on for longer - and they have never been a problem. And this is on stock Tickford height suspension at the front, so you wont have a problem. And even with 235/45's, the tyres still hit the plastics. But its the plastics that come off second best. |

Thanks for your advice arm79. I will put them on and give it a try.
Will probably setup the suspension with Bilstein Shocks and Lovell Low Springs (not superlow). The low springs should lowerd the car to the same height as the Tickford Springs. Is it worth getting Tickford springs as opposed to the Lovells? |

ive got custom rims 8" front rims(3peice simmons) on my car and they are shocking for grabbing the guard.. im only on kingslows, but if i load up the front enough(ie 100kg friend and spirited driving) it'l grab the guard pretty severly anyway. mind you thats with a stock sway bar, but still.

You must have a fairly positive offset on your Simmons if they're grabbing the guard that bad, or haven't you rolled/lipped them?
Cause i have some 9" wide Simmons on the front, and since i lipped my guards ages ago, they never hit. |

Get bthe guards rolled, then no probelms.
You want to get it done anyway does not cost much to get done properly.

Hey Pyroay what springs are you running in this shot? Is it higher, lower or the same as King Superlows? That thing is really low it looks like it is cutting the grass. Did you have to roll the rear guards? What tyre sizes were you using with the GT rims?

Is that size tyre on the front and the back? I suppose if they are the lowest ones then they are probably King Springs Ultralow height. Do you have trouble driving anywhere? Any scraping of your bodykit etc?

No problem scraping the bodykit or the rims, with large speedunps just approach on an angle.
That was rear, front 235/45/17Rear was actuall 255/40/17

Thanks for that pyroay. Timmeh going by what the guys are saying on here you just need to get the guards rolled on the front and it should be ok.
