With regards to the 3 bolt and 6 bolt patterns, take no notice of that as it is only present on the 3.9L's. it has nothing to do with the clutch...IT IS THE FLYWHEEL.
also, while were on topic, My Reverse Gear makes a small crunchy sound when i hook it in every now and then, is that because of no synchro or is there damage? |

also, while were on topic, My Reverse Gear makes a small crunchy sound when i hook it in every now and then, is that because of no synchro or is there damage? It has everything to do with the clutch. The 4l clutches are physically bigger and have a stronger clamping pressure. The clutch itself can take a fair bit more power and thrashing before it starts to s**t itself. Considering the flywheel design and material has been the same from EA to AU, the only difference being the bolt/drill pattern, its obvious that the flywheel is not the issue, but the clutch that attaches to it. Stock 3.9l flywheels are plentiful. Stock 4l flywheels are very hard to find. And in answer to your reverse problem, if you have an EA/EB1 T5 box, it has no reverse syncro, so unless you let the internals slow down before selecting the gear, it will be hard to select or crunch in. Or it may be that the clutch is not properly disengaging If you have EB2+ box, then its possible the clutch is not properly disengaging, or the reverse syncro has crapped itself. |

I'm not saying the clutches are NOT different, im saying that its the different motors which have different bolt up patterns.
and with my reverse. i do it when sationary, when i start it up, and i have just put in a new clutch cable, clutch, bearing and selector fork, so i dont think it can be the clutch isnt disengaging? |
