Hi guys I wondering if you could help me, I have a ED with a stock manual and found out that as suspected my tailshaft is bent/out align and is causing some serious vibration issues. I am guessing my cheapest avenue is to replace the tailshaft and here lies my question
According to the offical ford parts manual, different lengths and widths are used for the Auto and Manuals with regards to the tailshaft. Is there really difference between a ED manual tailshaft and a ED auto? Are all the tailshafts universal from EA-EL for T5 i6? I am aware the LWB are longer, how are the SWB V8 tailshafts different? And what is involved in fitting a V8 tailshaft to a i6? Also if anyone has a tailshaft out of a EA-ED T5 in excelant condition let me know. cheers Barnsy

Not sure the difference is in the length but more the balancer fitted to the front of the shaft. I have an auto shaft in my manual with no noticible effects.

Auto/manual/I6/V8 shafts from ED onwards can all be swapped.

wow that is strange.... I have a NA fairlane that was auto (they all are) and now it is manual. And according to that my tailshaft is the same length as an ea? How is that so? I thought fairlanes had a longer wheel base? Anyway... my car seems to be running fine with the auto tailshaft.

Note that the body id (ie 54 represents the SWB, the B,D,J represent GL/S/Ghia models; the 71 represent wagon/fairlane/ltds)
Try not to pay attention to the model and more to the body id and the year in which your car was made cheers Barnsy

They are different, which is why you change the tranny mounting point I think. So manual shafts should be a bit longer.

In the EDs the trans mount is the same for auto and manual, tghe lengths only really change for the lwb (wagon/fairlane/LTDs)
