Hi everyone, I was looking at putting an Au engine into my old Ef falcon which I have seen done on various pages;I have seen the K-member mods etc but all the engine swaps I've seen haven't included the Transmission.
The plan would be to install both the Motor and box from a lower mileage AU Falcon to my higher mileage Ef. Will the AU 4 speed auto fit straight into the Ef with no modifications i.e. are they a direct change over? are there any problems / pitfalls? Thank you. |

Everything will fit from the EF, but i'm worried that the electrical side of the auto isn't compatible with the EF computer.

Spline is different as I have an AU yoke out of a wreck and wont go into the back of a ED auto dont know about the later but there is a difference in the spline there is a blank spot (where there should be another 2 grooves)

The output splines are all the same with BTR's - They are the same as T5's, C4's, Toploader & single rail 4 speed manual's - even the Borg Warner 35 - 51 3 speed auto's... The wiring, solenoids etc inside are all the same & it all plugs together. The shift timing is controlled by a section in the ECU (If it's an EA-EB1 or a V8 version of a BTR - they have a seperate trans computer) - internal wiring is the same (6cyl & V8) in EA's - AU's. |

Thanks fellas I knew it couldn't be so easy lol I was hoping just to buy the power pack from an AU and more or less just slot it in apart from the K-member mod, CAS and working out which accessories to use this sounded ideal.
I'll keep researching after the school holidays maybe try and look at a few at the wreckers; its becoming more urgent since yesterday after developing a bad intermittent miss hahaha just in time for the kids holidays.. Thanks so much for all your help I appreciate you taking time to respond. |

Thanks mate this puts my mind at ease a bit more; I'll start looking for a newer/low mileage AU motor and box withing the next month. I've seen a few EF/EL's for sale cheap (whole car) but I suppose its the same old same old with one of those, hoping the AU would be a bit more reliable in the head gaskets department my auto Trans has done 275K so might be wise to replace that too! |
