a mates AU ex-taxi (2003 i think) has a problem, the ABS light is flashing and when he brakes it jolts and locks and makes a noise as though there is no pads, but there is pads he recently replaced them, i know this man as fearless but he sounded worried talkin about it so it must be bad.
i told him a quick fix maybe to pull the ABS fuse (assuming there is one) would this work? or relay? (if its a relay where is it and what else will it effect?) i did a search and found a lot of ABS problems and commentary on this model but nothing quite like this, any thoughts? please i need to get his car going so i can travel to sydney with it (hows that for vested interests!) |

if the abs is faulty
the brakes will work as if there is no abs i would guess being an ex taxi that 1 or more of the abs sensors have metal filings attached to them the sensor is just a magent and as the disc wears down the metal is attracted by the magent when u pull the wheel off and lookbehind the disc u will see the sensor im talking about

I would bet being an ex-taxi that one or the rotors or ore is missing the pulse wheel, climb under and have a check for both the pulse wheel and that the sensor is not blocked as per franks suggestion.
Could be a buggered relay, but more than likely its the Pump, if thats the case just pull the relay, ex-taxi, not really worth spending the $$ to get a replacement pump.

thanks guys, where is the relay? i will have a look this arvo hopefully and try a few things, absolutely right about not worth spending on it, even the owner said when he got the car for free from a relative(who was the taxi plate owner) he just needs it for a year or so till he saves for something better.

i thought they are part of the disc Depends if they have been cheap and put non ABS rotors on. But typically no the pulse wheel cannot come off, it can get bent though and cause the ABS to go into shock. I think stuff like AU sI fortes and what not, the poverty pack falcons had no ABS, could be wrong, AU brakes are not really a part I am very knowledgable on, other than better than E series but still s**t.

the pulse wheel is attached to the HUB not the rotor on an au. so it may have had a wheel bearing changed and put a cheap non abs one on?

maybe i will check it tomorrow or the day after i just had 2 teeth extracted i couldnt be stuffed doing anything now.
i dunno what package it is, i think futura (if there is that on AU?) im pretty sure it has/had ABS as there is a light flashing on the dash |
