My AU II auto is knackered- still drives fine but reverse slips badly and takes ages to engage. The car ain't worth much so I's be fixing it at home. Choices are to get a rebuild kit with all clutches and bands for $317, or find another second hand box.
Now a couple of things- I'm an ex mechanic so not scared by the prospect of rebuilding the box, just never done it that's all. The other thing is that with second hand boxes there is no guarantee they will work and that is a real pita. Just like the one I put in the other day which is fine until it warms up and then bangs 1-2 and flares terribly on 2-3... Has anyone successfully rebuilt a box at home? I also heard you need some special tools but I'm sure they could be made easily (have welder and hammer- what other tools do you need? ) |
