No 5 speed auto. Theres the 6 speed ZF in the BF's, but that'd be borderline impossible to put in an E series.
AU and BA 4 speeds are still the same BTR as in the E-Series, with some minor changes.
Depending on how much power you're chasing, a shiftkit and big trans cooler on a fresh trans would be my first port of call.

Not as much as you'd think :P
More done to the trans control then the actual transmission itself from what ive been led to believe.
A rebuilt E-Series BTR with a shiftkit and trans cooler will easily handle anything an N/A 6 can chuck at it, IMO.

there's a few mobs who do performance rebuilds of the trannies these days., if your going to spend the time and effort and money on it, might aswell get it done properly...

I highly doubt a standard one! Again you'd have to get it built up to handle that. Also the T5's a common box, there not all built up the same...

It depends on the condition of the box.
And how much power are you looking at shooting for anyway?
If the box is f**k then yeah, no point really.
If it's still good, just get a trans service, full flush, and away you go.
You NEED a big trans cooler though!!!
Don't do anything without one, heat is what kills these things.
