In Vic. I can safely say, with 100% assuredness, that unless Vicroads have changed the laws, Hub Adapters and Wheel Spacers are ILLEGAL in Victoria unless they were factory fitted. I'm sure you could get them engineered or the like, but you have to ask if it's worth it. Again I say, this ONLY APPLIES TO VICTORIA! Check your states laws!

i dont put any more stress on the bearings than a wheel made for e series offset because an eseries wheel has that adaptor width built in to wheel.
if the adaptor bought the inside edge of the wheel out more than the standard wheel it would stress the bearing but whe wheel still runs as close as the standard wheels do to the suspension.

Yeah, if you were running the adapters to increase track without using a lower offset rim, then yes it would put stress on suspension components.
Using them to bring wheels back into the correct track is utterly safe. Instead of banning them, a smarter move by government bodies would to be have a set of ADR's for hub adapters, and simply ban increasing or decreasing track by a certain amount.

they are not illegal in vic ive been told by vic roads, supposedly only the non adr approved ones are illegal.
otherwise most ef bearings are s**t anyways and most 17 wheel+ upgrade will eat out your bearings pretty quickly anyhow! so for $10-15 a side who cares? i havent noticed much stress and i give my car a hard time, touch wood! |

That's a news to me Fuzion. I spoke to them probably about 3 months ago about it.
Doesn't really surprise me though, trying to get straight answers out of vicroads is like trying to get blood from a stone. Might see if I can get something in writing from them when I got some spare time.

I'm considering them for a future set of wheels on my car, but not getting a real answer is proving a real turn off.

Wheel modifications are now going to be covered in the new national code of practise for light vehicles. It can be found at www.dotars.gov.au. It is up for public comment as a draft but it also outlaws spacers.

From what I have been told recently (last few months) spacers and hub adapters have been made illegal in QLD.
There are places that can sell them but will not condone the use of them or will not fit them to the car. |

There are places that can sell them but will not condone the use of them or will not fit them to the car. Jan 05 v2 QLD light vehicle modifications booklet states Quote: The fitting of spacers or adaptors between wheels and hubs, additional to those provided by the vehicle manufacturer, is not permitted. Download it here: http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/qt/LTAS ... ifications http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/qt/LTAS ... an05v2.pdf The Australian governments Department of Transport and Regional Services "Draft Vehicle Standard Bulletin for Public Comments" "Draft National Code of Practice for Light Vehicle Construction and Modification (NCOP)" "NCOP11 Section LS Suspension and steering 19 Sept 2005" states: Quote: Replacement wheels should be designed for the particular hub/axle and have the same bolt/stud pitch circle diameter and the same centre location method. The wheel nuts or bolts must have the same tapers as the wheel.
Wheels with slotted bolt/stud holes are not allowed. Replacement aluminium alloy rims should be located on the hub/axle by the same diameter centre spigot as the original wheel, using metal adaptor rings where necessary. Wheel nuts and bolts must have a thread engagement length at least equal to the thread diameter, except where specified otherwise by the vehicle manufacturer. Fitting of wheel spacers (or adaptors for dual wheel conversions) between the wheel mounting face and the road wheel is not allowed unless fitted as original equipment by the vehicle manufacturer. Modifications to disc brake calipers, hubs and suspension and steering components to enable the fitting of replacement wheels are not allowed. You can find this reference here http://www.dotars.gov.au/transreg/vsb/v ... ds.aspx#11[/b]

I went into a mag wheel place in preston, melb...and asked about some 17in rims for an EF....the guy said I could fit AU/BA XR8 style rims and could use adaptors...
this guy is in the business and im sure he would not take the chance of being sued in the event a wheel comes off and kills someone.... this guy wasnt a dodgy back yarder trying to make a quick buck....

When I got my 18s on, the guy sold apators but would not put them on. However, if you put them on yourself...
My rims arent held in my adaptors. |

What and you are saying they also wouldn't sell you rims that are classed as illegal for either diameter, width or both for your car What you have to remember is they don't take the responsibility for your actions, you buy the rims with spacers and you have an accident they will get out of it for sure, but your insurance company has just also found a way out of paying up too, because whether the spacers have some so called ADR (yet to see it or believe it) the ADR and relevant state bodies say all spacers are illegal unless the vehicle came out with them.
