Quote: AU and BA wheels do NOT fit E Series or X Series Falcon's due to the wrong offset. The rear sit in too far and the front rub on the calipers.
You can however buy Legal Hub Adapaters (not Spacers) that bolt onto your hub first, then your wheel onto the hub adapters. They approximate from $200-250 for a set of 4 but most wheel packages for pre-au with different offset come with it now if you ask. They are legal in NSW, and supposedly in VIC so im presuming the rest of the states. They are safe and work perfectly without faults, however spacers are illegal and are merely a very thick washer which can just crack/snap so make sure you get hub adapters. BA and AU wheels have been copied for Pre AU/BA offsets such as the AU2-XR8, BA Machine Finished XR8 Rims, BA 5 Spoke XR6 Rims and i think soon the BA XR6 MKII Rims too. Hope that helps as this topic seems to come up a lot and has been discussed/and repeated many of times. Due to confusion with hub spacers being actually legal in any state, ADR's state they are illegal in all states so this thread has been closed by "Damage" |

My tyre shop say they believe they are illegal, however they where good enough to give me the mobile number of the loacl Vicroads inspector. I'm going to ring him tomorrow. Hopefully get the facts for us Victorians.

It turns out this guy, had never heard of "Hub Adaptors" and after I discribed them to him he said that Vic Roads would most likely consider them to be the same as "Spacers" and therefore not allowed. He went on to say that I would need to fax off a copy of a Hub Adaptor drawing to them, for them too consider if they would approve them.

any update on the legality of offset spacers/hub adaptors in vic? i managed to get a hold of some cheap g220 17's and was gonna fit em to the ED but when i asked the local beaurepaires guy how big the spacers needed to be he pulled out a giant slab of aluminium with its own studs... he also said they were legal?? but that insurance companies would rather act ethically and not age descriminate then cover a car with them installed..

There called hub adapters, not spacers.. spacers are just exactly that. Spacers without bolts etc. just a washer type spacer which can break. Ive seen a few vic cars with them so i presume they cant be that illegal there either. i have them on for my ba gt's! |

Vicroads...
Spacers between wheel and hub are not permitted unless provided by by the manufacturer as orignal equipment. Interesting bit here too, The stud pattern of a replacement wheel must be the same as original, drilling wheels, hubs, discs and drums is illegal.

I'll risk it! i hav some 17's with the same offset as the BA to go on my EF, so..... coz i'm a country fella none of the tyre shops in my area have the hub adaptors, but the Melb SE burbs inst to much of a drive. So in simple terms does any1 no of any shops that sell em???

I went to TTF in dandy and it was the only tyre shop that i could find that stocked them, and yes these HUB ADAPTORS are illeagal.
TTF wanted $70each for the adaptors ($280), and they would only supply them (legal reasons).

Do the hub adaptors put a lot of pressure and strain on the hub and bearings? I've got a set of TS50 18's for my EL ghia and need the hub adaptors. Just Car insurance said they would cover me but only if they were legal, which according to some posts, they are not.
