Hi Guys,
I have an AU Fairmont series 1 (1998 I think, smartlock version) and it shifts hard no matter what gear, 1-2, 2-3, 3-4. It downshifts fine but if I let it shift by itself it will rev up, stay at high revs for a couple of seconds then slam into the next gear. Did a bit of reading and seeing as it is doing it in all gears then I am thinking it would probably be the pressure solenoid (s5?) not the individual shift solenoids? Is there anything I can check before pulling out the pan and swapping solenoids (TPS? ECU resets etc??) Cheers! |

Oh I should also mention that when holding at a constant speed and a constant throttle position, the car accelerates a bit by itself then backs off! May or may not be related (hence why I mentioned TPS).

I have noticed that in my AU1 V8 Fairlane, when i gun it in second gear and get up to about 110 120 (overtaking) it will hold the gear for a while, then it will slam into 3rd.
I am lead to believe that its because the trans need a MAJOR MAJOR service. I recommend getting it flushed and serviced (if it hasnt been done lately).
