Hi Guys,

I have seen a lot here about doing the front wheel bearings on Falcons, but I've done some searching and have had some trouble finding anything similar posted here about replacing the rear bearings, specifically in my case an 1998 AU with IRS.

I understand they probably just don't fail as often, but if anyone is a mechanic or has done it before do you believe it can it be a DIY job for a novice?

About to bite the bullet on this and get it done finally. Here is what I have been quoted:

Lube Mobile
$601 - LHR side, in driveway service.

Pedders Blacktown -
$660 LHR side, $960 for both sides + alignment.

Automasters, Mt Druitt -
$900 for 1 side (I fell off my chair when I heard that one)

KMart Tyre & Auto -
$288.50 - LHR replacement hub carrier with pre-installed bearing, incl. labour (1.5 hr) supplied and fitted.



As you can see its all over the shop. I'm a bit curious about the last one from KTAS, but the guys there sounded honest and confirmed that its a swap in unit and no BS-ing around with 50t bearing presses or sending away for a engineering shop to replace the bearings.

I knew that parts with pre-fitted bearing were out there but no one else had offered to supply them to me yet, I think they might be Whiteline units.
