Recently bought a Au xr6, thought it was all good until I've realised that the gear stick rattles in 4th gear and grinds out of it after I release the clutch. Was wondering if anyone has experienced it, to tell me what it is or what not so I don't have to get it pulled out just for them to tell me its stuffed. Cheers

'Grinding' sounds like the 3/4 syncro has worn out. If the gearstick is vibrating, the mainshaft bearings could need replacing. Do you have problems with any other gear changes up or down?
You'll have to remove the box to check & repair it anyway. Before you do that, try changing the transmission fluid and put in some friction modifier (Castrol Transmax Z or similar).

I forgot to mention that it has a short shifter in it as well, It doesn't always happen on gear changes going in to 4th but its happened just enough for me to be concerned, straight away I thought it could be a syncro but I saw that it could be because of the short shifter if that is a reason.

Another possibility is that the short shifter needs the stop adjusted. I had the same problem with mine after swapping it from one gearbox to another.
