Hey guys,
I am currently doing an Auto to T56 conversion on a AU2 XR8 and thought i would jot down a few helpful points about what to look out for and what EXACTLY you need for the conversion, apart from the obvious. I am using the Mal Wood Kit that I bought of a mate that was doing the conversion from T5. It hasn't been completed yet but here are some issues I have come across - Tri-Y headers foul the starter motor which is now on the other (RH) side. The only headers that fit are the expensive ($1,000 + Fitting) DiFillipo 4-1 headers that still need a slight bend to fit. - You can still use existing ECU but will need to be re-calibrated to accept manual. Careful if you own XCal 1 which is longer supported - bastards! - You will also need the cruise control deactivation switch for the clutch pedal ($150 from FoMoCo) that's it so far, but as I said the jobs not over yet. I'm getting BPT to do it. Still have to get the tailshaft sorted which envisage will need shortening/balancing. cheers Last edited by TKFD on Fri Aug 06, 2010 6:47 pm, edited 1 time in total. |

You should be able to do the resistor trick to get it running if its anything like the AU 6 cylinder.
Im doing a T56 conversion on my AU 6 atm too. |

Another point
You will have to get a steel tailshaft as you can't cut down standard alloy shaft because of the internal rubber sleeve. Got that from my tailshaft guy, who didn't tell until it arrived, after paying a courier to deliver it Part number for the clutch deac switch is PART NO F4ZZ9A837A TRADE PRICE $153.26 AU series of course |
