ok.. heres one for you teccies..
my au ghia, (stock) 3.45 (apparently LSD) rarely moves both wheels. i did it once before, about 2 months ago. auto trans, that about it. it does, however alternate spinning. some days the left spins, others the right. when the car was jacked up to fix the handbrake, i could move the wheel freely either direction (other side on the ground). i thought that if one wheel moved, so did the other. have checked the plate on the diff, says the usual 3.45 etc any ideas?

AU Fairmont Ghias were not LSD IIRC, they had traction control instead

yep sounds like its just a s/s mines a 3.27 s/s and ive had both wheels spinning but once you shift the load on either of the rear wheels it will regain traction and stop spinning

but i read the 3.45 was lsd On the XR's it is in most cases. The only cases it isnt is on the monty ghias with traction control and the AU2/3 XR6 HP's that had it deleted as a std and replaced as an option. |

yeah its a real disapointment isnt it, i had the same thing with mine. I thought it would have been an lsd being a 3.45. Relised after a couple of spins

LSD is a factory option on AU. standard LSD comes on xr8 & xr6 vct. LSD is even an option with au xr6 hp model. so there you go.

AU1 XR6 HP's had LSD as standard, the AU1 Monty Ghia didnt have it even as an option. |

What about AU Fairlanes.
I thought they had 3.45 LSD's, but was surprised when I was able to turn the wheels on a mates Fairlane while one side was jacked up. We assumed it was a single spinner, but on closer inspection found it was a 3.45. Which lead us to look more, and the diff plate has a "High Performance LSD, use approved oil" tag on it. So we thought the diff must be an LSD. But maybe not in the end. |

If its in gear or park and a limo I doubt you will be able to turn the wheel (easily anyway) no matter how much its worn out. Could be just have a wrong tag on it.
If its an LSD, it will say LSD on the oil fill plug tag attached. All the "highperformance" means on open centre diffs is that ford use a synthetic oil in these units. Also for the AU IRS, not all 345's were LSD's they come open centres as well. All the 323's are open centres though.

But maybe not in the end. my fairmont has the hi-performance tag on it too. rand ford and gave em the serial no. and they told me it's a 3.27 v8 diffgod knows how it got on my 6. im just spewing the 3.45 lsd didnt mysteriously find its way to the back end
