G'day all,
Can anyone tell me what would the stock standard diff be in a Ford AU series II built in June 2000? My diff has a pinion bearing noise at the moment and gradually getting worse. At this point in time I would not know if the crown is still ok. Mine is live axle , Not IRS. No modifications have been done to it except new shockies and springs. Thanks in advance. Peter |

Just one more thing, anyone.
Do you need a diff spreader plate to work on the diff as such or not required? I have carrier bearings, inner and outer pionion bearing, pinion seal and wheel bearings. Is there anything else I will need apart from Prussian Blue to check diff meshing? Thanks in advance. Peter in Brisbane |

Hello cjh.
Collapseable spacer. No I don't. Where can I get one from? Do you know the size or specifications of it? I have a small paint brush to apply the blue. Thanks, Peter |

Does anyone else know where I can purchase the so called collapsibel spreader plate. Maybe some technical guru can send me a diagram with measurements so I make the thing using a Mig welder and drill press.
Cant afford to pay the diff shop, hence the need for above. Cheers, Peter |

Cheers, Peter You can buy a new collapseable spacer from a Ford dealer.....approx $20 odd.

Ok,
I purchased a new collapsible spacer, I was told this goes somewhere near the pinion and if you overtigten the pinion then this collapsible spacer crushes and can cause bits to break off and may cause internal problems. I have no idea if this is what I am seeking, I thought I may require the actual spreader plate to hold the components apart whilst changing the bearings. What gives? Thanks |

Bondy they are 2 totally seperate things. the collapsible spacer is used to reduce end float in the pinion.

Landau510,
Thanks, I sort of gathered that now. The question is do I need an actual spreader plate as I will be replacing carrier bearings as well as front and rear pinion bearings and seals. Or can I do the work without the need of a spreader plate except for the collapsibel spacer? Cheers |

Im no expert but I would have thought you would more likely need shims to tighten it all up rather than needing a spreader to open it up to get the centre in.

G'day and thanks for your reply,
I'm no expert either I would have thought one would need the spreader to install the shims then use Russian Blue paste to see what the meshing is like. i.e. to ensure its not high or low steps. |
