hey guys, just wonderin if any 1 knows where i can get my EL auto rebuilt/reco'd in melb. i want to get it strengthend a little aswell(depending on what can be done to them).
my S5 solenoid is on the way out aswell, has any 1 herd about putting a holden solenoid in its place. a teacher at tafe said he has done it before and it had perfect shifts and they are adjustable...
any help, and prices would be great.

yer i herd a bit about preston autos n diff's and there supposed to be good!
where doin autos at tafe this week, and i have my car off the road with the engine out and tranny on the ground. so we took it in got it apart, and im glad i did it... its fukkkkddddd, the trans fluid wos black and cooked. the front band was a veryy worn, and the clutch faces were destroyed and in some places had fallen off. by pure luck i found a BA auto there that wos going to be pulled apart anyway. i talked to the teacher and he said that i can use all the parts from that ill need, so tomorrow im gonna start putting it back together.

has anyone done the same thing, or know if theres going to be any problems or things to watch out for??? also can i use the ba valve body, and is there any diffrence between the 2??

nono, i wouldnt go pulling appart an auto at tafe, coburg is it, i finished there recently, they dont have the equipment/no-how to do this. Youll end up putting it back together and you wont have drive or something like that!

lol, i hope that doesnt happen. were about half way through it now, puttin all the new seals in atm. the teacher with us today used to own a auto workshop and did heaps of e series autos so he definatly knows wot he is doing. if we get it finished today were gonn try n get it on the test machine to make sure its working properly, although considerin its full new internals i very highly doubt it wouldnt work.

i hope because ive changed everything over, it should b all the same. we looked at the valve body, and it is diffrent, there seems to be an extra valve or sumthin on the inner side right near the bolt that locks in Park. not sure wot it is, were putting it on the test bench first thing tomoz morning, if it doesnt work ill just put the old 1 back in.

where on the drum r u talking about? did it look like it had been cooked??? we pulled apart 6 or 7 autos from any eb - ba (i think that was all) and none of them were like u said .

you only need some torque bits and sockets to dismantle one of these
i see it everyday at bayfords as we rebuild autos for other ford dealers
and the general public, they arent that hard to pull apart either

the only reason i thought my s5 solenoid was playing up was because it was shifting really hard into 3rd after holding 2nd and after i had backd off the throttle.

you need a special tool to line the oil pump up on the 85LE trans (ea-ed i think??) if it isnt lined up prepperly u can break quite a bit of stuff. the 91LE's and later all are held in position so no need for a tool.
they are pretty simple to pull apart, the only hard thing is to understand exactly how everything works. if u had a manual it would be really easy.

after putting mine on the test bench this morning we found reverse wouldnt work and couldnt see any reason not to. i changed the valve body back to the original el and then found there was no dirve at all...
all the solenoids were working properly and we could feel the trans trying to turn so i pulled it apart agian.... found the old valve body was now hitting on the park lock because i had changed it to the BA one. put the el lock back in and now its hitting on the ba drum the lock is forced onto.
now i have to go to tafe on tomorrow and pull alllllll the internals out again to change the output shaft! i think i might put all the clutchs into the el internals, cant afford having to pull it apart again.

if any 1 want any pics of anything just tell me n ill take a few tomoz
