Ok thismorning i was on my way to work. sittin on bout 100 when suddenly my auto drops from 4th to 1st. then drops out all together untill i rolled to a complete stop. i put it in park then back into D. and it was all good till i went to go to the shjop at lunch time when it did it again. this time at 60. what could be the problem anyone got any ideas? also voltage seems to drop when this happens. i dont kn ow if this is the cause or the result of the auto failure. thanx for any advice.

Could be the selector switch on the passenger side of the trans.

Had a new Auto guy look at it and take it for a drive today. (bad experiences with auto guys doin nothin and chargin for it) wouldnt slip or nothin while he was in the car. he rekons its either the solenoids ( 1 or 2 of em) or the ECU. what are the odds of it being the ECU???

It could be the salenoids, there are four of them. It could also be broken wire to the 'box or the gearbox computer itself, I had a simialar problem with my NC Fairlane, except it was dropping into "Limp Home Mode" which is 3rd Gear. It turned out to be the gearbox computer. Needless to say if it is that, be looking at $500 or above to fix it. Thats what it cost for my beast.

Got car back from the shop tonight. Flushed the lines and converter, serviced the box and also the 2nd-3rd solenoid had gone so they replaced it. changes beautifully. no more probs I hope. test will be in the mornin to see if it does it when its cold.

Well Box is like a new one to drive with. changes perfectly plenty of power and doesnt feel like im loosing power between gears. overall very happy with the job. BUT thismorning on my way to work the same problem is still there. however now its not so violent and seemed to take longer for it to happen than usual. feels like its only kiking down to second now. tacho goes to just over 4000 at just on 100.
