looking at getting my auto serviced and i think the rear seal (where the tailshaft slides in) is gone as the c**t keeps leaking. Anyone know a roundabout price for an auto service on its own?
and a price for maybe replacing this rear seal/bush would be awsome if anyones had it done. cheers, luke.

A proper tranny service at Ford (really the only place who can do it properly) is $250 to $300.
A pan flush and filter change is usually between $100 and $130. That seal is about $8 from Ford. Only buy the genuine Ford one, as the aftermarket ones are cheap s**t. A mechanic will probably charge you $40 to $50 to put it in. But its something that can be done at home. Jack up a** end. Remove tailshaft. Leaver out the old seal and tap in the new one evenly with hammer... Reinstall tailshaft. Job done! |

also. would you recommend a proper tranny service, or just a pan flush and filter change?

Your kidding right! Standard transmission service around $110 from transmission specialist. I had my rear seal and rear welsh plug done 2 years ago with a trans service, cost me $350 trade.

My bad I thought you wher refering to th rear engine seal
Rear transmission seal was done for $60 on its own.

Doing pan and filter only clears out 4 of the 12 odd litres in there. Depends how thorough a clean you want. No use doing 4l and have it turn brown and s**t cos the rest of the stuff in there is crap. I think Ford generally use about 20l of fluid to do the flush. Me personally, i'd go the full flush. I cant see the point of really doing a hlaf assed job. |

replacing the extension housing seal is just a band-aid to the situation. if the extension housing seal is leaking then generally the bushes behing that are buggered too.
