Hi can anyone confirm for me that if the auto tranny needs one of its belts tightened will it be a very ruff gear change between the two gears that the belt controlls?

There is no band adjustment on EF autos. It is all auto adjusted by the computer.

So if there is no bands why does it rev quite high (like its slipping then catching) then sort of bangs into second gear only when its cold and only some times thanks

I said there was no band adjustment. I didn't say there were no bands.

It might mean a band is partially broken. The S5 solenoid might be faulty. The fluid could be old and requires replacement.

They are adjustable internally, normally done only during rebuild.

I know that, but I wouldnt call that an adjustment. Its more like a base setting using shims from where the computer takes over and auto adjusts as needed.

Although the transmission control unit is pretty smart it is not smart enough to adjust the bands for you.
