that would prove both expensive and a pain in the behind every 20thou yeah ? cheaper than a rebuild still though.

When dad had his AU tonner as a tow car for a tandem trailer that often used to go 4.5T combined, we used to do a pan change ever 10 000km and full flush every 20 000km.

Also had a 30x40 trans cooler on it, as anything less and it would go into limp mode on hot days.

Then more I read and understand about auto's it's obvious that oil changing and the occasional complete flushing is essential for longevity and for avoiding costly rebuilds. Not a day goes by when you dont learn something however small it maybe.

I think a full flush every 20k is way overkill, and if you're needing to do it every 20k, then its copping way too much abuse and wont last any longer anyway.

Dropping the pan and replacing the filter every 20k is about the most it needs IMO.

Heat and burnt fluid is what kills autos. You do what you have to to make things live.

I get my auto serviced every 20k with filter and new oil for $120.00 but im thinking im gona start doing it at every 15k just so i know that the oil wont get to old and broken down and start hurting the tranny.

Better be safe than sorry and for the sake of $120.00 its nothing compared to a full proper rebuild

Makes 45,000kms between tranny services (no flush) on a cab seem sketchy.

I can tell you now, that laying in my bed at night, I know a Falcon taxi ( or ex-taxi ) going past my place....I can hear the planetry's doing their thing when changing gears ( high km's and not serviced enough ).
My ED doesn't hardly makes a noise compared to them.

 320 $ that is a bit rich. I just got the falcon AU I6 S3 done in town and from memory it
was around 140$

Oh and also does every one else here service their autos at 20k  i did not think they needed doing all that regulary

You'll have to read the thread again. We are talking about full flushes... Not just a pan change.

Depends on how long you want your box to last between rebuilds and what level of rebuild (cab spec for 1800 or total rebuild for 2500 to 3000).
Prices my guy charges are $110 for a pan job and $300 for a flush.

Now at a life of 100,000kms you will have 5 regular flushes at a total cost of $1500.
Regular normal services will set you back $550 and taxi services will set you back $220.

At 200,000kms that doubles, so you have regular flushes costing $3000, regular normal services costing $1100 and cab interval services costing $440.

At 300,000kms flushes cost $4500, regular normal services cost $1650 and cab interval services cost $660.

Its safe to say that at anything over 300,000kms its cheaper to get a performance box built with converte and treat it to regular normal services than flush your tranny every 20,000kms.

If you just treat the stock box to 45-50,000kms services (cab spec) then you save up enough money for a performance rebuild by around 250,000kms. If you want a cab spec remanufactured box then you will reach break even at around 150,000kms.

You have to remember that when driven sedately the btr in pre B series specification can last up to 800,000kms between rebuilds and with a bit of abuse thrown in for good measure you still get almost 500,000kms out of them before they die. And this is with 50,000km cab interval servicing. If they were flushed every 20,000kms they'd last over a million km and still be good. Really by then the price difference would be so great you could by yourself a stockpile of new gearboxes with the cash saved from not flushing.
I guess some people are overkill and are more pedantic with their daily than most crew cheifs are with race cars.

$220 for a full power flush at the trans joint we use.
They recommend doing it every 40 thou.
For $220 Im happy to get it done every 20. To only do a pan job is like people who change their engine oil at 5000km but only do the filter every 10000km. Its a half job.
The guy we use is pretty fairly priced for a rebuild. Just had the box in the EL XR8 done and it cost us $1800. That was a reco box , kevlar bands , solenoids , new convertor , dip stick retrofit , new mode switch and T bar bushes.
