Hey guys,

Just a quick question, the gasket on my auto transmission (ED) is leaking.
Am i correct in thinking that to replace it, I do the following:

1) Unbolt the pan, draining the fluid. (approx 4 litres)
2) replace gasket (possibly filter?) and rebolt pan
3) fill with the correct fluid through the dipstick.

If this is correct, great, if not, where am i wrong? I know that there used to be a doco on this before, but it was obviously lost. Once i have checked the procedure, i will happily create a new doco with photos for the modifications section.

Thanks a lot,

GAZZA

It's hell easy, just get a service kit from repco, comes with the gasket, o ring and filter, and get the castrol oil. Undo the bolts and the oil'll come out, replace the parts, redo it up, fill up the oil.

You forgot the part of "have oil spill everywhere" and "swear loudly" and repeat process a dozen times.

That is not a flush, that's a 'service'. The transmission and torque convertor can hold 10L of oil and to have a complete flush you must have all 10L removed.. A service only does the 4L which is in the gearbox itself.

Or take it to a mechanic and watch them bite there lip as they try not to swear and u can still drink and laugh at them while not getting oil on ya self and pissing oil all over there floor. Although was a lil p****d when they did mine as they dropped 4l then put a new 4l's in so the oil still looks old and s**t, stinks too, or does it normally stink?

You sure its not just loose bolts?
I had oil leaking out of my engine sump a while ago, got under there, and did all the bolts up. not over tight, but theyre not gonna fall out on me now.

Personally, I'd just service my auto transmission every 40,000 kilometers or something, rather than having a flush. Less hassle.

So why not just change 1/2 of your engine oil every 5,000 km instead of doing all of it every 10,000km?
