Hi Guys,

Any idea what I should be paying to have the S5 Solonoid on my Auto box replaced? I'm driving an EFII Fairmont - stock 4spd Auto. Got a quote from Fraud for $670 fitted - does this sound right or am I being ripped? The reason for the replacement is that I've been told by fraud that it is going - the box is slipping bigtime... when I accelerate sometimes, it feels as though I have no traction - does this sound right or should I just be going for a replacement box?

Cheers,
-Adam.

Sounds rather expensive. But if your going direct to Ford, that would probably be near par. May also include a full full 12l auto flush too.

Is there plenty of fluid in the box. As low fluid will make it "slip" or sometimes loose drive.

Worst come to worst, PM Brett_4777. He might be able to help you get the S5 changed a s**t load cheaper, if it is that.

I've had two of these done, EA & EL both cost around $350 including auto service. So as usual Fraud are ripping you off. Go to a trans specialist.

Yes there is plenty of fluid in the box - I had a flush done on the box just before Christmas Eve because the box was developing a slight squeel when accelerating. Since then its never been right -the squeel came back, and then it started slipping a bit, and its slipping a lot. I'm pretty sure the S5 Solonoid is shot, as the change from 1st to 2nd gear is pretty hard (like a thump hard) between 3000 & 4000rpms.

MADMAX - You're in Victoria (assumably in Melbourne) - where did you get your S5 done?

Cheers,
-Adam.
