hi all!
i am getting a full tranny service and flush on my au next saturday!! i have asked my mechanic to put a auto conditioner in as well as my tranny makes that annoying whine at about 40klm's and thought that it might make a difference. has anyone used one of the auto conditioners and do they make any noticeable difference. i just hope this dude puts the correct fluid into my auto (he can be a shifty little prick at times) thanks pete. |

You didn't mention how many K's are on your car.
If the auto wasn't serviced much in previous years, the busings in the planet sets wear, causing a whirling noise. When the auto pan is removed, you'll see it in the bottom.

hi cjh!
sorry bud the car has 170,000klm's on board! i bought the vehicle with 152,000 klm' on it with no service history so i am unaware if the previous owner has even done a tranny service.(re the bushings in the planet sets) is the damage you shown repairable while the pan is off the car or will this be one of those expensive repair bills . thanks pete. |

How much should an auto transmission service cost? My EF has a sticker on it from some transmission place saying it should be serviced at 156,000km or by some time in 2004..or something..I don't know whether or not that was done given I only bought it 3 months ago. It's up to 195,000km and the transmission seems fine but I'd rather not risk it.. just wondering how much I'd be up for.
Thanks guys. |

Standard service, which only changes about 4 litres of oil should be about $120-$140.
A full oil change service will cost $250-$300. The service is the same its just the price of the extra oil.

When doing a flush, it is common to use 16 to 20 litres of tranny fluid.....there is also the extra time it takes too.
Need to check the condition of the rear slip-yoke bush too, and the servo cover's seals/gaskets. If it needs these too, don't expect change from $500.

The valve body can be exchanged easily without removing the tranny.

Last time i looked BTR fluid was over $10/L and the filter kits are about $40 and it'll take about an hour by the time it degreased, driven and bought up to temp to have the level checked hot, not to mention the cost of the degreaser and the waste oil disposal Probably listed as 'workshop supplies' or 'consumables' and oil disposal may be listed as an 'environmental levy' Basic service will be over $200. and like CJH said don't expect change from $500 for a full flush either way your prices are about 10 years out of date. |

All I can say is that's what I get charged! And you can buy 95LE ATF for $30 for 5L I know that because I bought 5 of them in July when my cooler line came off, and I'm sure workshops pay even less when buying in bulk. I was quoted $180 for a standard service on a Pathfinder Maybe you need to find a new service centre

Sorry, I was posting with my phone and thought I'd canceled it.
There is slight differences between some of the boxes, don't ask me what they are though. AFAIK your XH runs eb or ed running gear, so it should be right.
