Could this be done with a column shift BA.

as above.

No idea. Stunned silence.
Requires a whole different level of research doesn't it! I was looking at making a system that adapted an existing Tiptronic Module to wheel operation. I'm guessing that tiptronic isn't even available on the column shift. Although I suspect that the wiring connector is still there. Doing it on a ute may need a few things then: (1) A tiptronic cicruit from a floor shifter (2) A switch to manually select sports mode (3) The same setup we're hoping to do with manual select on the column. I haven't started on this yet, as I am yet to complete my other stuff (BA/BF interior/airbag conversion) Lukeyson |

In theory, if you had the electronics which you could mount under the dash for instance, wouldn't you then just be installing remote mount micro switches to activate the shift signal? They could be mounted anywhere.
If others have been able to get their autos in eseries cars to respond to the shift signal using the BA Floor Shifter and an electronics interface, I see no reason why one couldn't keep the electronics and use a button to activate 'sports' mode and momentary switches to change up and down the gears. Any comments? BenJ

I HATE the way it is now, its backwards. why ? it is backwards to all the tohers for a reason it is a better system pull back to change up as the car accelerates u are not working against the accelerational Forces Exactly. Same for braking. Push forward as you are working with the forces not against them. If you like the other way around you must be a big computer game racer. |

Have heard that the wiring loom has all the connectors to do something like this it's just finding a physical fit so to speak.

Any comments? BenJ Sounds about right. The tricky bit would be fudging the magnet & circuit as per the floor-mounted version. Here's a text version of what goes on with the BA shifter tiptronic circuit (well, the bit in the shifter housing). The * symbol represents the magnet hovering over a sensor, which I've drawn as [-] [-] [-] Shifter is in P, R, N, or D, shifter isn't in SSS mode [-] [-] [*] Shifter is in SSS mode [-] [-] [-] Shifter is tipped rearwards to change gears (1-->2) [*] [*] [-] Shifter is tipped forwards to change gears (2-->1) [-] Now the physical problem I see is that if you are to have paddles, it'll be a bastard to simulate what the T-bar magnet & sensors are doing. I haven't looked at the electronics for a while, and it's not my expertise (that's Muzza's area), but if you can simulate the above (with the correct signals/voltages) then you're laughing. Hope I've kind-of helped...

Hey, thanks for that.
By your description, it sounds like the magnets form part of a switch setup, so that when the magnet come within range this triggers the opposite side and allows current to flow to the 'brains'. I would suggest that you could replace the magnetic switch mechanism with a momentary switch and correct resistor value to achieve the same effect. Muzza? are you around to comment? Cheers BenJ

Yep, that *should* work. I think the circuit only had 3 wires leading into/out of it and into the "brainbox" that Muzza made which allows the shifter to talk to the BTR. Power, Earth, & signal (voltage through this dictates gear changes)

i agree with matt, i feel the + and - shifts are back to front. to me it seems common sense that forward = up, and backwards = down. thats how joysticks and computer games work dont they?
just chucking in my 2 cents... |
