Has anyone shortened a ba/bf irs diff?I want to shorten a dana m86 irs diff about 80-100mm for a project car I'm working on,dont want 9'' straight axle etc. Can anyone tell me if the half shafts are of a different length, looking at pics they do appear to be different.I'm thinking of using the two short shafts and doing a cut and shut on the subframe.Any constructive advice appreciated

Yes, there is a difference in halfshaft length, but it is where they slide into the diff. You can't use two short halfshafts, otherwise, the drivers side shaft will not be located in the centre. Also, hacking the subframe is a very bad idea.

there are places that make aftermarket driveshafts, i think KPM is one of them, maybe it's someone else..

But worst case scenario, take the drive shafts into an engineering works and tell them what you want, and have them custom made.

Thanks for the replys any pics of a half shafts would be good.I'm a machinist by trade so was hoping to possibly modify the shafts myself. The assembly will be engineer certified just researching at the moment.was hoping someone may have already done it.

A bit of a thread mine, but as I'm searching for new halfshafts myself, KPM has the following picture, comparing the Ford OEM ones (top and bottom) with KPMs efforts (middle)
