I have a feeling my the rotors in my BA XT are starting to warp.. Its only done 30,000 k's but lately its had the shakes under brakes... especailly at speed and downhill. Since I got a flat a week or so ago, and the spare was a pretty average dunlop, I just got 2 new Toyo's put on the front, (with the best two old tyres moved to the rear as usual).... the shake has definately diminished but it's still present..
Ive heard rumours that this is a pretty common problem for falcons (and commies) as ford and holden use the same dodgy brand of rotors to save money.... Is this a fact, or just a load of crap..? AND more importantly, is the problem im having comon?

yup go some dba slotted's, better material, and better braking ability.
for $90 (for e-series) so assume ~110 for b-series a corner |

very common. if you only got 30 000 should still be under warranty.

Ive had my rotors machined 4 times, then replaced, still had problems, ford have brought out a new set of pads, seems to have fixed the warping, but the rotors wear very quickly. Ive done 190000km been though numerous pads, and now am almost ready for my 3 set of rotors. My mechanic ( not from ford) advises fitting slotted after market rotors.

I'd also like to add at our recent 45,000km service at ford at darra, i asked them to check the brakes as they are shuddering. There response at the end of the service was....what the hell have you been doing to the brakes....they have blue spots.
I straight away said...I haven't done anything it's my wife's work car and she drives it like an old lady......they said basically there only covered to 50,000 now (thats the rear only, front is still 100 i think) and if they cant be machined it will cost me $153 for each new rotor... I told them that was crap as the service guys had told me before numerous times that the BA rotors are known for warping.....and the blue spots are from the warped rotor rubbing constantly on the pads....but the tended to disagree.... They even went as far as to say it could even happen from washing your car at car lovers when there still hot.....I told him years ago when i had my trusty old xe it was washed numerous times at car lovers and the likes....and they never warped.... Typical.......... I have to go back tonight for the second part of the service....which is the brakes so ill let you know what happens. But i tell you one thing if they try to machine them and they are to far gone...like hell i would pay $153 for another set of plastic rotors |

Get new rotors and pads, at least you'll be able to stop a lil better. I have the problem too, when braking at speed my brakes shudder heaps and for about 10min after, also get an annoying squeal when braking and after i take my foot off the brakes. I'm just getting the PBR brake kit put on so that should solve the problem

Ok i went down and they were machined......they seemed to be ok....so at least that buys me some time to save up for some after markets after the 45,000 service
Where are the links to this site's sponsors....I haven't looked yet but i will do after this post.....If its obvious i'll find it.... And any recommendations on what sort of rotor....keeping in mind i don't thrash it these days i just drive it.....That seems to be the in thing when you get older , although you still have to keep the carby clean I should mention that darra has always shown me good service especially the arvo staff......I do suspect that they are only following protocol which means you cant really blame the staff, but either way it turned out for me..... |

I wouldnt suggest cross-driller & slotted, heard a few stories of ppl cracking discs. Just dba or rda (dont know which one is better) slotted rotors would be fine

dont go x drill. theres no need for it if she drives like a grandma, and even slotted would be lost on her.
its just better steel in the rotor, thats all it needs
