hey ive been testing some ba mk1 and mk2 futuras and xt's lately and so far only 1 has had brake shudder. was this a common problem? i seem to recall them developing shudder issues but thought it was sorted by ba mk2?

if it is common is it as simple as a pad change?

has done 80,000 kms and mk2.

but a mk1 with 110,000 hasnt got the same problem.

the one shuddering is also the only private sale vehicle ive tested.

I had my pads changed and by discs machined. The C**k-face at ford told me at the time that nothing could be done to stop this occurring as it was just a heat problem. Like Nicko says, after market will solve the problem.

It was a common problem but I'm pretty sure most BA's would have been fixed by now. Neither of mine have ever had an issue.

how big and how much?

ive not got a clue about any b series things lol!

im thinking it would cost about 400 or so to get it to a point where it wont shudder, but im willing to spend more if it means fixing the shudder and pulling up harder aswell.

if the dealer reccomends you fit aftermarket, and for whatever reason it doesnt fix it, or the aftermarket part fails (im not disputing quality of parts just making a point), then technically the dealership is liable because they told you to fit these parts.

you know the biggest thing that causes brake shudder? loosers not tensioning wheel nuts correctly.

I recently stuck on DBA slotteds in the front with new Bendix Ultra pads (58,000 kms) and no more shudder. You could get the factories machined but the problem will come back sooner rather than later. The DBA's will fix the problem for good so i'm lead to believe. Oh braided lines are worth their weoght in gold too.

Rotors were around the $120 each mark (Race Brakes) , Bendix Ultra F&R pads $135 (Supercheap) , hoses front and rear around $300 (Race brakes). Local brake mob charged $260 to fit the above and machine the rear rotors.

I can't justify the cost of the big brakes upgrade with 322mm rotors. My car stops on a 5c piece now with just the simple mods above so don't waste your cash.

Wheel nut tension is very important on any hat type rotor. cannot stress enough about using a torque wrench when doing them up, also a good idea to check them after getting your car back from a service.

the stock BA rotors (and e series to the most extent) were made with a very soft iron.

it didn't matter so much before but now the cars are getting heavier they are playing havoc with the brake systems.

dad's THREE ba's all did it. but he was towing horse floats with them

the dba and rda rotors are made from a much higher grade steel and the ROTOR! wont warp. the pads dont have as much of an effect save for heating up the rotor when its stationary in one spot, hence the warp.

go the dba's. one of the sponcers here does a really good deal

$650 will get you a brake upgrade kit from 299mm to 322mm off FTG auto salvage

To gve you an idea the ba premium option brakes were 325mm - so your basically putting premo brakes on it
