developed a knock in my ba fairmont ghia in rear left wheel the other day.
my mechanic had a quick look and reckons its the diff. apparently coomon with irs. anyone else had this problem?

its not uncommon.
Could also be the bush that supports the rear of the diff collapsed, Seen that a few times.
Id be getting a second opinion though

I'm trying to get to understand these diffs and their failing bushes. Workshop manual doesn't refer to them.

How many bushes are there? What parts/part numbers are they? How much do they cost?

Is there a better description or picture of all of this somewhere?

I think this has happened to me and I plan on doing the job myself.

And yes, I know the whole IRS has to come out.
