I have noticed scatered all through the forum everything on this, from what type of symptoms people are having from this design in handbrake and various fixes and adjustment techniques for it. So I apologise straight away if it seems as though i'am covering old ground.
I was wanting to know if anyone had modified their rear handbrake ( on models ba-onwards) to eliminate it's needs all together as a drum assembley. ie. I think the early xd falcon had a rear clamping caliper as it's handbrake and also worked as a convential brake when driving the car. Another example i thought of was on a roadster with a rotor located near a drive shaft join and again another caliper acting as a clamp when you pull the handbrake lever. Has any heard or know of anybody doing this to Ba falcon models or onwards ? (this is my first time posting so i hope this makes sense)

I work for a ford dealer in WA, and the only fix that there is available for the BA hand brake is a De-swish fix from for them selves, other that chamfering the leading edge and dedusting the drum/shoe assembly there is nothing you can realy do, they are a b**ch to adjust. I take the drum/disc off, reposition it around so i can adjust through the inner hole when u remove the grommet.

BA-BF handbrake is the same as the E series. Very common to swish as you say after its released. Build up of dust is the main cause of this and yes Muffy a prick to adjust. I wouldnt bother modifying it as its alot of work and with no real benefit.

Just get used to it...swish...swish...swish as you drive out of a carpark,and every C*** is looking at you like your some fcuking drongo that doesn't know there is something wrong with your car
My ford mob looked at it heaps of times,did fcuk all vik...last attempt they said it's my tyres any wonder I sold the fcuken thing

yeh theres not alot you can do besides take the edge off the inner drum if it's worn that much. even commodores do it, but i don't think they have a drum brake assembly.

AFAIK Commodores also have a "Drum-in-Disc" handbrake. I wouldn't convert back to a caliper type handbrake.

Cos mine was a slusher,I ended up not even using the hand brake,just shoved it into park...

Both of my handbrakes do that to.. swish swish swish..

My 2002 Ba doesn't swish yet thank god!! but i have found that the handbrake (adjusted by Windsor Ford) will not hold the car on most hills if i drive up the hill front first. If i reverse up it will hold a little better?
is there a fine adjustment screw on either the handbrake lever or just under the car. I know the EA-ED had a 2 part handbrake and you could adjust the handbrake there as well

another constant problem with ba's!
Probs with mine Power Steering Shudder (low Speed) Brake Shudder Handbrake Becomes Loose Handbrake rubbing on disc (swish swish noise)
