You can use a shift kit if you like in any form, it will make no difference to the install that I can tell, and I can see no reason that it would.
Cost will be around $140 for the trans controller, the button box is yet to be priced and will let you know, i would expect around $200 i guess, and you supply switches and wiring hardware.

Well testing and programming is moving quite quickly, but time is always a killer, I would expect some time early new year, so people can spend the xmas dollars they got instead of presents.

Dellboy999: Since you seem to know this s**t inside out I was wondering if you knew the possibilities of making a down shift/kick down inhibitor..
I asked this question on FM mk1 and got alot of "what the hell for" replies, but one person said 'A fella in melb made one! The purpose of it wouldnt be as a performance mod as such, but to cut down on unwanted shifts when cruising, often i'll give the car a _little_ bit of juice in say 3rd and all will be fine, but then i'll press the pedal a mm too far and wham its in 2nd and reving its tits off... seems im always driving just on the boundries of down shift conditions. Even better actually, what would I need to make a button tat would hold the current gear no matter what happens. (no up or down shifts)
