Hey All

i have a weird knock in the rear of my BA XR6T, ive had the rear Diff bush's replaced months ago as they were pretty cactus.

it happens more when i turn in reverse or go over heavy bumps, ive checked all the bolts are tight and shockers are mounted properly and no visible leaks

to me it seems like its one of the rear control arms, allowing it to move backwards and forwards, has anyone else had this issue??

i do live on a farm type area and do lots of dirt travel which gives the suspension a hard time.

My $$$ are on control blade bushes, as they control the fore/aft movement of the wheel. Heavy bumps and bad roads will push the wheel around and make the bush bottom out.

Which will also cause other bushes to be pushed beyond their limits, potentially making the noise, but its a start.

Another one of Fords cheap crappy heavily voided bushes that die a quick death, specially on the turbo cars. Generally accompanied by excessive axle tramp on acceleration and vibrations on freeway driving.

Mine were dead at the 40,000km mark.

Cheers guys for the reply's
changing the original blade bushes at 40,000k seems like a poor effort from Ford, may have to book in to pedders and get one of their 18$ checks

arm79 did you get the bushes replaced under warranty? or go for an aftermarket option?

also may go give the shocks a second look over tonight but they arent really all that old

Pedders check didn't pick up my bad blade bushes. It was just part of me trying to find a rear end vibration that I found they were dead.

I unbolted the arm from the rear spindle, and the arm just dropped. So I figured it was time for replacement.

I went aftermarket, Superpro comfort option. Far better then factory, plus the car only had about 4 months warranty left at this stage. I've been told by many suspension people that the factory rubber bushes actually induce axle tramp and consequently damage CV's because of how soft they are, so its was a no brainer for me. Plus the more power through the rear end and the more "brisk" driving that you do determines how long they will last.

$200 plus an hour and a bit of my time to swap the 2. A realively easy job.

I also noticed that when the new bushes went in, I had to push the spindle at least 5cm towards the front of the car to get the bolts in. With the old bush, everything just lined up. Shows how far stretched they were.

Massive difference to handling and rear end control. If they've never been done, its worth it just for the hell of it.
