my old man has just got himself a used ba xt stationwagon, and rekons that the tiptronic shift doesnt work. Im assuming that the tiptronic SA transmission was standard on all models. if so does anyone have any ideas why it isnt working?

yeah it was standard on all models, the only reason why it coldnt be working i suppose is that your old man doesnt know how to use it or a solinoid is gone.

cheers

There is not a solenoid that controls the BA SS shift, I know I have researched it, and created a controller for the standard 4 speed auto in the e-series and AU's to replicate the BA shifter and fitted it to my car.

With the car stopped and engine running, push the shifter into SS mode, now take the car up to speed like 60 at medium throttle then click it up a gear, it will change to 2nd straight away, then under light throttle click it to up another gear it will goto 3rd, then click it back again it will goto 2nd.

If it is not doing that, then I would suggest check the fuse panel.

It has actually got the SS hasn't it?

I don't know if they made any collumn shift wagons but the column shift utes don't have it.

Anyway it either works or it doesn't. If not just take it back to the dealer.

yeh its a floor shift dont think they made colum shift ba wagons. my old man pretty mechanically minded and he had the tiptronic transmission in his last car (magna). I suggested it may be a fuse, i cant exactly check it out myself as he lives in adelaide and i live in hobart

Has he figured out that the falcon shift is the reverse of the magna?

Personally I like the way the BA's shift. When your braking your weight goes forward so you downshift by pushing forward. When you accellerate your weight goes backward so you upshift by pulling back. -Just like a porsche. :P

Well the shifter works by a hall effect pick up maybe try pushing the sihfter to the left hard and shift up and down, there is a small plug, does the gear surround light up when the lights are on, the connector may be unplugged would not affect anything but the SS mode and light if it was.
