ive got a ba ute 4L
i had to get a low km one from wreckers as the one i had died put it in , replaced front and rear seals , cleaned out lines with squashed rabbit i mean compressed hare , put in new radiator at same time , put on new filter , cleaned pan etc the only dirty thing left was the convertor which came with the box checked shift points i filled with oil , then when it flowed out i idl;ed car , went through gears and topped up when idling in park , put in plug , went for a run , put in park with idling and drained excess out of fill plug ( as it expanded) went for drive 20km , pulled up checked for leaks , then when i put in drive it didnt go , when it went in it clunked in , checked reverse and did same gave car to someone else and half hour later it free reved when taking off a bit , soon after lost all drive and oil came out of breather by the look of it , when cooled down near ambient with engine not going there waas still oil coming out of fill plug , started and went straight into gear and drove 20m , and thats where im at . any ideas |

Dumb question but did you put the right oil in it ? Maybe the converter that it came with is stuffed ?

Dude that sounds like how you check the oil levels when you have a dipstick. On the BA you fill it until the oil comes out of the fill hole then start it run through the gears etc and top up accordingly until oil comes out of the fill hole again and do the bolt back up.

The tranny oil is usually checked with the engine running and the box is at operating temperature.

just one common thing to check on the BA's.....there is a connectir near the inlet manifold on the fire wall. Its where the trans loom comes up to the main loom. Ford made one wire too short and nearly every BA break this wire when the engine tilts under revving. Pull the connector off the holder, undo the plastic backing, undo the tape and check all the wires. If one is broken ( most likely a red one) then unclip the white insert holding the pins in, pull the pin out and extend/ join the wire.
Let me know if my instructions are hard to follow. |
