my BA XR6 has stalled a few times, last time was last night going around a multi story car park, under 20kmph, the rev's started going up and down jolting the car, it was between 400 and 1400rpm that the RPM varied randomly, my thoughts are that the torque converter might be on its way out. it also likes to stay in 3rd gear when in "drive". this jolting and varying RPM also happens sometimes cruising around town at about 60kmph. the other thing i have noticed is that there seams to be a slip in power in 3rd gear, seams to get to the point it wants to change gear at about 2000 RPM then the revs drop about 300rpm to 1700 RPM, then it will get back up to 2000 RPM then changes to 4th gear. i don't know much about gear box's so i would like to here your opinion on this guys, any help would be much appreciated...

Mabey the Trans cooler not working? seams to happen after longer drives and seams to happen more on hot days, just chucking ideas around.
but mabey that would help with the diagnosis.... it seams like it has a burst of power every jolt that happens, when it jolts the revs dont go up, it jolts then the revs drop, then rise back to where they where.......... its the weirdes thing ive experianced...

hiw many k's has it done, and has it ever been serviced? the auto probably could use a flush in the short term.

to flush the auto you'd have to take it to a transmission joint (better off anyway)
there are other things that could be influencing it, but what you've said does sound like the auto.. have a look at the throttle body too, its probably well and truely in need of a clean pull out a spark plug and have a look at it, i'd be guessing the ground is probably pretty worn on it. run some injector cleaner too. these things are all cheap fixes, where as the auto is likely to cost a couple of hundred

hey guys, i took the air box and pipe off so i could see the butterfly in the air intake, because it is electronic throttle control, i noticed that it is not working properly, it is not a smooth opening motion when you put the car in ACC and move the accelerator, it jolts and is very noisey, i think it could be this little electric motor on the throttle body that opens the air intake that is the cause to most of my problems.
i expect that this butterfly is meant to open smoothly when accelerating, just want to make sure that im right, what do u guys think?

i would go to a transmission place and get them to pull the codes from your trans, it may have a d**k solenoid they normally play up when hot.
Sounds like it goes into limp home sometimes so i would be getting that checked first.
