y old man has a BA XR8 ute. He's going through tyres at a pretty fast rate, as they're chewing out the insides. He's had them in for alignments a couple of times and they say that there's nothing wrong with it. Has anyone had this problem before and can they enlighten me as to who he should see to get it sorted?

ford dealer,find out the specs-----how many ks on car? then any guy can set it up,but sounds like the old caster\camber deal and too much toe out,draging the tyres.1st step--specs on wheel settings.

Front tyres mate.
Everything is supposedly set as it should be. The tyre joint has had them on the machine and it all reads good, yet they are wearing way too fast. All of his driving is on country roads, very little city driving at all.

Mine scuffed up the inner edge pretty soon too, I do probably 80% highway ks.
At 15,000km service the service manager mentioned it to me, said they rotated the tyres, and that if I wanted to get good life out of them he said he'd probably rotate in between services. I haven't investigated further cause I go through tyres pretty quick anyway.

Try a different tyre joint perhaps, I had one certain dealer which will remain unnamed try pulling a few fast ones on me.

My brother has had the same problem with his BA ute. After 5 wheel alignments and 3 sets of tyres i found the problem a few weeks back when replacing his rotors. The 2 upper wishbone bushes attached to the camber/castor kit are shagged. So when applying brakes it altered the camber, castor and toe. This is why it was fine during wheel alignments as it was static and under no load.

The tyre joint is owned by his mate in the bush. The only one in town.
I'll get him to check the bushes in the upper wishbone then. Is it visible to the normal person if they're f**k?

When a wheel alignment is done the wheels are on so its hard to test what i did with the wheels off. I just pulled from front to back of the top of stib axle and could see movement in the upper wishbone bushes. In defence of your mates business its not their job to fault your suspension but to take readings from what the wheel aligment computer tells them which this fault would not show.

The best way to test bushes/balljoints/rubbers, etc is to use a pinchbar or similar to check for movement - quite often when components are under load, it's hard to tell by wiggling, etc.
It's best to test all the above suspension components this way before having an alignment done, that way, you can replace items so you don't need to do multiple alignments.

If he goes with a fulll nolathane upgrade, that should eliminate that problem, right?
