well this in a rather abrupt ending to the story of my transmition. i have an AU series 1.
Lately i have had a fluid leak in my trannie... i had been lazy about it and just been carfull with driving about... and topping up oil when it is needed (starts to slip) and had narrowed down the leak... best needed a pro to take a look caus i dont like seeing spring loaded parts on the ol shop manual (read: never finding all the launched parts ever again) plus i needed a specialised tool for the job and when i went down to repco the guy just said not worth it see a tranny specialist. i have had bad bad experiance with "specialists" before so i had been putting it off for 2 weeks. so this morn it started to slip again, not severly but just a hint... damn must get on to them i thought... then all was ok for the rest of the drive. went to leave work tonight went to take off and without warning slipped then very quickly went bang..... a f**k big bang. enough to get work mates running out from work to see what the f**k just happend. no drive... just revs and slight lurches forward every now and then. reverses like a dream tho. a normaly 40 min drive home FORWARDS wasnt a good idea to attempt in reverse. something tells me its RIP for my transmition. im having a mate of a mate look at it tomorow. Time for a 5 speed? |

being an AU i think the 5sp might be a little more expensive for you than the e series boys. it is a worthwhile mod though

that happened to my reverse gear, you could rev forever and it would go no where, after a while it would eventually reverse, but any chance of load, eg up a slight hill, it wouldnt go anywhere.

Ok my transmission is out. and now desiding what to do.
get the transmission rebuilt for around the 1700 mark. or go the whole hog with the t5. labour isnt a problem but what am i looking at for the parts... everything i'll need. anyone know of the exact parts i'll need and/or someone that has done this for a series 1 au on here that can offer any advice? where would be a good place to start? |

Manual conversion has a lot involved .. and not just straight forward.
Just swap the auto ... and see if you can get a stronger 4-speed installed and them put a shift kit on it .... also installed a transmission cooler as well ... this prolongs fluid life and can handle a bit more heat as well. While your at it ... chuck in a hi-stall for fun too

Eh looks to be like the parts are hard to come by so it may just be an auto rebuild.
